Manchester United are hoping to finally complete the signing of Lecce star Patrick Dorgu over the weekend after weeks of negotiations.

The 20-year-old is set to become the first signing under Ruben Amorim after being identified as an ideal candidate to fit into the Portuguese's 3-4-3 set-up. A fee of around £30million has been agreed after United failed in their initial bid.

United have until Monday night (11pm) to get the deal over the line with it understood that he will travel to England on Saturday to conduct his medical. Reports earlier this week from The Mail have claimed that the Denmark defender couldn't have completed the tests sooner due to relevant documentation and contracts were not signed in time.

With plans in place to conclude the deal over the weekend, there remains a minor threat. Lecce are in action on Friday night against relegation rivals Parma and despite his move to Old Trafford progressing, Dorgu is part of the squad.

Lecce confirmed their squad list on Thursday with Dorgu listed as an attacker. The 692-mile trip, one of the longest trips Lecce will face this season, is likely to be Dorgu's final act in Italy.

However, United will be sweating over Dorgu's participation on Friday. Lecce are currently in the Serie A relegation zone but will move up to 13th with three points at Parma - who are on the same number of points.

Earlier this season, the two teams played out a thrilling 2-2 draw that saw both teams receive red cards and Parma scored two injury time goals. Dorgu was on the scoresheet with his first of three goals this season.

United will be hoping Dorgu isn't on the receiving end of a bad challenge against Parma. His imminent move to Old Trafford means he's likely to be involved almost immediately for Amorim but a knock could alter that.
