Carlisle United boss Mike Williamson says the league table won't lie come the end of the season – and he’s confident the Blues will get out of trouble.
United remain five points adrift of safety as they prepare for Saturday’s home clash with Swindon Town.
It offers the Cumbrians the chance to move closer to their rivals in the League Two survival battle.
The Blues lost no further ground on Tuesday despite losing 1-0 at Notts County, with Tranmere Rovers’ late collapse to a 3-1 defeat at Swindon keeping them five points above Carlisle.
Head coach Williamson said that United must focus on their own task as they bid to climb away from the relegation zone in the nick of time.
“You never want the gap to increase, but we've got to focus on ourselves and we've just got to make sure that we build off a good win against Fleetwood and a good performance against Notts County,” said Williamson.
“We didn’t get the result on Tuesday but we can still go into Saturday with that confidence, that momentum, and if we get a win then we're shortening the gap.
“I think the league table doesn't lie over the reflection of the course of the season. You find yourself where you should be, there or thereabouts, and we've got every confidence we'll get out of it.”
Carlisle have 19 games left to save their EFL status as they take on a Swindon side who have pulled clear of danger in recent weeks.
Williamson stressed he was "100 per cent...more than confident" United would be able to stay up.
A big boost to the Blues’ survival hopes was the confirmation earlier this week that Kadeem Harris had extended his deal at Brunton Park until the end of the season.
The former Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday man will be a strong candidate to come back into the XI on Saturday, having been a substitute at Meadow Lane.
Williamson has expressed his delight at retaining Harris and told the News & Star: “We’ve been talking [about the rest of the season] since he came in. He has been a massive part of what we want to do and how we want to do it.
“He's brought a lot of quality, a lot of experience and is a great character.
“I'm really pleased that we've been able to agree that and he's here to the end of the season.”
