Luke Matheson has joined National League North side Alfreton Town on loan for the remainder of the campaign.
The 22-year-old made a couple of first team appearances for Wanderers in the Vertu Trophy group stage earlier this season.
Matheson initially joined the Whites’ B Team ranks in 2023 following his departure from Premier League outfit Wolves.
The right-back also had a stint on loan at Bohemians in the League of Ireland at the back end of last season.
He has impressed again in the Central League this term, scoring a lovely goal in a 6-1 win against Wrexham last month.
Bolton had been looking for a suitable EFL loan for the youngster but he remained part of Andy Taylor’s B Team squad.
He will now further his experience in senior football in the non-league pyramid following the closure of the EFL transfer window last month.
Alfreton currently sit 13th in the table and Matheson could go straight into the squad against Hereford United this afternoon.
A statement read: “Billy Heath and his management team have been working tirelessly in recent days and weeks to bolster his Ofton playing squad in his quest to turn around the fortunes of the Reds in the National League North this season.
“Alfreton Town are therefore excited to announce the capture of defender Luke Matheson from League One side Bolton Wanderers. We are very excited to have Luke join the Reds squad.”
