David Moyes joked that Everton could look to sign some of Liverpool's out-of-contract stars at the end of the season. During a press conference ahead of Everton's meeting with Manchester United on Saturday, Moyes was asked about the Toffees' summer transfer plans as the club prepares for its first season in its new stadium.
Moyes has sparked a turnaround in Everton's fortunes since replacing Sean Dyche as manager earlier this year, with the team having collected 13 points from its last five league matches, but the squad is in need of improvement regardless, and Moyes made light of Liverpool's contract situation as he addressed the question.
“There are quite a lot of players out of contract in the summer who we might need to look at as well," Moyes said, before joking: "Some not so far away from here, so you never know!”

Of course, Liverpool's three most high-profile players are due to become free agents at the end of the season as things stand, with Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah all about to enter the final four months of their deals. Moyes' cheeky comment comes after Slot appeared to revel in discovering that the first goal scored at Everton's new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium was scored by a Liverpool supporter.
Everton's Under-18s contested a friendly against Wigan's Under-18s earlier this week, with Wigan emerging as the 2-1 victor courtesy of goals from Harrison Rimmer and Cole Simms. Rimmer celebrated his goal, the opening one in the game, by holding up six fingers — one for each European Cup Liverpool has won in its history.
The match was mentioned to Slot during a press conference earlier this week, and he responded by saying: "Oh, who scored first?" When it was mentioned that the first goal at Everton's new ground had been scored by Rimmer, and that Rimmer was a Liverpool fan, Slot responded with plenty of laughter.
