Manchester United have been handed an unlikely update on the future of Marcus Rashford.

Rashford, who left his boyhood club to join Aston Villa on loan earlier this month, had been frozen out by head coach Ruben Amorim.

Amorim had claimed multiple times that the 27-year-old did not meet the required standards in training and was thus allowed to leave Old Trafford.

Since then, the England international has featured heavily for Unai Emery's side and registered his first goal contribution with an assist in Villa's 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town last weekend.

Reports had suggested Rashford's loan deal included a clause allowing him to leave United for £40m in the summer, but that now seems unlikely.

According to The Times, the Villans are close to breaching UEFA's spending rules with their punishment yet to be identified.

That would perhaps scupper any plans to make Rashford's move a permanent one, given their rumoured charges relate to an increased wage bill that far exceeds their revenue in the Midlands.

UEFA's squad cost ratio (SCR) limits clubs competing in European competitions from spending beyond their means on transfers, player wages, and agent fees.

There had been some suggestion Villa are covering a whopping 80% of Rashford's £325,000-a-week salary from United and that could cause a hiccup when it comes to his rumoured summer switch.

INEOS are thought to be open to a sale for Rashford this summer, given his academy status would count towards pure profit.

United are also dangling precariously close to breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules after years of mismanagement in regards to player transfers and wages.
