Mark Williams got thumped in the head by a golf ball after a wayward swing from his son.

The Welsh snooker star was teaching his son some tips on how to play golf at an indoor simulator driving range. Williams lined up his son's posture prior to the swing, before everything went a bit pear-shaped.

The young man struck the ball with admirable force, only for it to rebound straight back, making direct contact with his dad's jaw. Wincing in pain, the 49-year-old clutched his face before making a beeline for somewhere to sit down.

Writing on X, formerly Twitter, Williams wrote: "This is what happens when you try and give your boy some tips at golf, my jaw is killing (crying laughing emojis)".

The whole sequence was captured on CCTV, with Williams himself posting it to social media. Take a look below.

Williams was stunned by Aaron Hill in the German Masters last week, falling to a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the 22-year-old.

The Welsh Open begins in just a few days, and Williams has admitted he may skip the competition in an effort to limit his playing schedule. He remains the only Welshman to ever lift the Ray Reardon Trophy, but the last of those two wins came 26 years ago.

"I've missed a few tournaments this season and I’ll probably miss a couple more," he explained.

"I'm just going to chill out and see what’s next. I'm not 100 per cent sure if I’m going to play in the Welsh Open this year yet. I’ve not made my mind up.

"There’s the Players Championship, the top-32 event. I’m not sure if I’ll play that one either because it’s the big Chinese 8-ball event, which is on the same dates.

"I've got to decide which one I’m going to go to. That’s something else for me to think about.

"I don’t want to play too much. I’m not saying I am going to miss the Welsh but I haven’t decided yet. I can’t play in them all. One, it’s my age. Two, it’s my eyesight. And three I’m not good enough to play in them all. You need to have a few comps off."
