Manchester United's difficult winter window may not be the final time they are limited to what they can do in the market because of the Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability rules.
Ruben Amorim was handed just £25million in January to bring in Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Arsenal youngster Ayden Heaven. Despite losing Marcus Rashford and Antony to temporary exits, United were unable to add attacking reinforcements on deadline day.
The Manchester Evening News understands the club prioritised summer spending over a panic buy in January. A short-term or stop-gap signing was not of interest for United meaning Amorim is left with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund.

Off-the-field, plans are now underway for the summer transfer window and just like they were forced to in the winter window, United face considering selling one of their most-valuable assets to raise funds.
According to The Guardian, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo are two players who were available in January and will be up for sale in the summer. The report states that Garnacho is valued at around £70million and Mainoo would cost £80m-plus.
In January, Napoli failed with a bid for Garnacho while Chelsea showed interest. The Blues were also said to be keeping tabs on Mainoo's situation, should he become available.
Furthermore, there is hope that Rashford's possible move to Villa on a permanent basis will help with their compliance with PSR. Unai Emery's men have a buy-option for £40m and as a homegrown player, his sale could count as 100 per cent pure profit.
