Arsenal travel to Newcastle on Wednesday night needing to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit to have any hope of reaching the Carabao Cup final. Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon scored either side of half-time during the semi-final first leg to hold a commanding lead, with the Gunners producing one of their worst performances of the season.
It is good, then, that Arsenal have chosen to produce one of the most impressive display of Mikel Arteta’s five-year tenure heading into this crucial cup clash, which comes three days after the Gunners humbled Manchester City 5-1 to send out a huge statement in the Premier League title race, which now firmly does not involve the champions.
Bukayo Saka and Ben White remain sidelined, but David Raya, Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino all shook off fitness concerns to face City, so will be fighting fit for the trip to St James’ Park. Newcastle, meanwhile, are sweating over the fitness of Joelinton after the star midfielder picked up a knee injury against Fulham at the weekend.
Both Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe will address the media on Tuesday ahead of the game. You can follow this blog for all the latest team news and build-up ahead of kick-off on Wednesday evening!
