Matt Sherratt has rung the changes as he named his first Wales team to face Ireland this Saturday.

The Cardiff coach has taken over for the remainder of the Six Nations after Warren Gatland walked away from the job last week, with the new interim head coach making eight changes to the side that lost in Rome last time out.

Scarlets wing Ellis Mee is brought into the back-three for his first cap in place of Josh Adams - who is out injured after the Cardiff wing was initially understood to be starting earlier in the week - while there's starts for Gloucester duo Gareth Anscombe and Max Llewellyn in the backline after both were called up last week.

In the pack, there's an all-new front-row, with Leicester loosehead Nicky Smith, Dragons hooker Elliot Dee and Sale tighthead WillGriff John starting, while Exeter's Dafydd Jenkins is back from illness to partner Racing 92 lock Will Rowlands in the second-row.

In the back-row, captain Jac Morgan shifts across to the blindside to accommodate Leicester openside Tommy Reffell, with Cardiff's Taulupe Faletau retaining the No. 8 jersey. You can follow live updates from Sherratt's press conference here.

There's also a positional change, with Ben Thomas - whom Sherratt has consistently used at inside centre at club level - being reverted to midfield after starting the first two matches of the tournament under Gatland in the 10 jersey.

On the bench, it was understood that Sherratt was initially set to opt for a 6-2 split. However, he has gone for a conventional 5-3 bench, with Harlequins fly-half Jarrod Evans in line for his first Wales appearance since the summer of 2021.

Dragons scrum-half Rhodri Williams and Scarlets wing Tom Rogers provide the rest of the backline cover on the replacement's pine.

Mee has made just 10 appearances for the Scarlets this season ahead of his Test bow, crossing for two tries since joining from Nottingham.

The winger will be one of three players making their first Six Nations appearance for Wales, alongside centre Llewellyn and prop John.

The starting XV picked by Sherratt boasts just 386 caps in the starting XV, with 105 of them belonging to Faletau.

"We’re looking forward to the challenge of facing Ireland," said Sherratt. "We have spoken this week about being brave, but not reckless and making sure everyone knows their roles. We also know that keeping our discipline will be huge.

"Everyone is excited for our first home game of the Six Nations. The atmosphere Wales fans create at Principality Stadium is incredible and playing at home is something the players really look forward to."
