The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly made Saquon Barkley the highest-paid running back in NFL history after a brilliant season in which he helped the team win the Super Bowl.

According to ESPN, the Eagles have given Barkley a two-year contract extension worth $41.2m. The deal includes $36m in guaranteed money and Barkley could earn another $15m in bonuses.

Barkley joined the Eagles last season and made an immediate impact. His 2,504 rushing yards over the regular season and playoffs were the most in NFL history.

The New York Giants picked Barkley with the No 2 overall pick in the 2018 draft. He was a two-time Pro Bowler with the Giants but took a leap when he joined the Eagles last season, where he was finally part of a championship contender. The 28-year-old was a first-team All Pro in 2024 as well as being named NFL offensive player of the year.
