Türkiye is seeking to maximise the Iraq-Türkiye oil pipeline's capacity as operations resume through Ceyhan, according to Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
Bayraktar emphasised Türkiye's readiness to resume operations, despite a lack of confirmation on flow resumption, according to a report by Reuters.
Türkiye halted the operation of the pipeline in March 2023 after the International Chamber of Commerce ordered Ankara to pay Baghdad $1.5bn (Tl54.69bn) in damages for unauthorised exports from 2014 to 2018.
Despite Türkiye's readiness, eight international oil companies in Iraq's Kurdistan region have not resumed exports through Ceyhan.
"This pipeline has been ready for one and a half years already. We want the Türkiye-Iraq pipeline, especially the two pipelines of 650km from our Silopi to Ceyhan, to be used," Bayraktar stated.
He added that Türkiye aims to direct some oil to the Kirikkale refinery and transport supplies via ships through Ceyhan to various refineries globally.
The minister also highlighted the Development Road Project, a planned trade route involving Türkiye and Iraq.
This includes a pipeline to the Persian Gulf for Iraqi oil to reach global markets via Türkiye, the report said.
Additionally, with the Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline completed, Türkiye plans to begin natural gas exports to Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan, as reported by the Daily Sabah.
Bayraktar said: "We are starting to export natural gas to Nakhchivan. The Iğdır-Nakhchivan pipeline has been completed. This week, we will have provided this natural gas pipeline, a new connection for Türkiye."
The pipeline will supply Nakhchivan with an annual capacity of 500 million cubic metres of natural gas.
Bayraktar also discussed cooperation with Russia, meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak and Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilyov.
"In addition to our current cooperation and how we can improve our trade volume, we also have new issues on the agenda" Bayraktar stated.
He noted the upcoming four-decade milestone of Russia supplying Türkiye with gas and mentioned the focus on establishing a natural gas trade hub in Türkiye.
On nuclear energy, Bayraktar said Russia is interested in the Sinop nuclear power plant project, while the primary focus remains on the Akkuyu plant.
"Türkiye aims for Iraq-Türkiye oil pipeline to run at full capacity" was originally created and published by Offshore Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
