Wales Under 20s have beaten Italy 20-18 after late drama in the Six Nations.

Richard Whiffin's side held on as Italian outside-half Roberto Fasti missed a last second penalty that would have denied the visitors a deserved win.

The result sparked wild celebrations among the Welsh players as many sank to their knees in relief as they recorded a morale-boosting victory less than a week after being demolished 63-19 by France.

Two tries from Scarlets hooker Harry Thomas and one from impressive Cardiff wing Tom Bowen were just enough to seal a win that is a major boost to Welsh rugby.

This was a strong Italian side that beat Scotland 22-10 in the opening round last weekend. It was Wales Under 20s first away win in the Six Nations for five years.

The victory didn’t come easy, with Wales having two tries disallowed in a frenetic encounter.
