Andy Woodman admitted that Bromley lost their confidence when conceding first against Grimsby.
The Ravens fell to a 2-0 defeat at Hayes Lane on Saturday against David Artell’s well-drilled side. Danny Rose found a bizarre opener immediately after half time before Justin Obikwu rifled an effort past Grant Smith in the 70th minute.
In a tale of two halves, Bromley controlled the first but failed to take advantage of their seven shots with Grimsby punishing their profligacy after the break.
Bromley boss Woodman was frustrated with his side's wastefulness against the Mariners, adding that the Ravens caused their own problems.
“It’s disappointing,” Woodman said. “We should been a goal – if not two – up at half time. Besides the first five minutes, we were really good in the first half.
“We played some good football and created some good chances. Their keeper made a couple of good saves. We were in complete control of the game.
“In the second half, we killed ourselves. We had a throw-on in their half, and then thirty seconds later, we had conceded from bad defending and being wide open at the wrong time – that was disappointing. The second goal was game over.
“There is no escaping that we were poor in the second half Grimsby let us create very little, but we helped them by not creating anything.
“We have to be better on the ball and we have to be more positive and confident – if you go a goal behind you can’t go all nervous, that is not how football works.
“After conceding we looked a bit all over the place and nervy which is something I have not seen from my team before. It is understandable a little bit at home, it catches you cold, but it was a poor goal to concede.
“We were the masters of our own downfall by gifting them two goals. Credit to Grimsby, they did not have to do much after that – we were pretty poor.”
Bromley are winless in their last five games in League Two, Woodman pointed out that his side must go ‘back to basics’ to turn their fortunes around.
“Clean sheets breed confidence, we need to start getting them. It is about going back to basics a little. We need to put a team out there that is solid and does the job.
“There will always be tough spells in a season, we would be kidding ourselves if we always had it our own way.
“We have come up and it is a difficult league. We have had good runs, but now we are on a bit of a tough one. You have to dig in at times like this. A result will come out of the blue from somewhere and everyone will be relaxed again.”
