Arne Slot said that he didn't feel as though his Liverpool team controlled the game against Bournemouth, despite registering a 2-0 win that extends the Reds' lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Saturday's clash at the Vitality Stadium was a game between two of the top flight's most in-form teams, with Liverpool going into the match having not lost in the league since September, and Bournemouth having not tasted defeat since November.

Bournemouth's previous two matches saw it thrash Newcastle 4-1 and Nottingham Forest 5-0, but the team failed to score in a match for the first time in 2025 as Liverpool kept its 10th league clean sheet of the season.

The visiting team did ride its luck at times, with Antoine Semenyo crashing a shot off Alisson's post in the first half when the score was still 0-0, and Slot said he felt as though Liverpool needed that luck in order to come away with all three points.

"Exactly the game we expected," Slot told Sky Sports. "They’re so intense and they keep running every second. I said before the game when we were 3-0 up at Anfield at half-time they kept on running.

“We had to play on top of our abilities and we needed a bit of luck to win this game. They were constantly trying to do things. I didn't think we controlled the game. It is a good team and a good manager. I am very happy that we could keep a clean sheet and score two goals.”

The victory moves Liverpool nine points clear at the top of the table ahead of Arsenal's meeting with Manchester City on Sunday. The Reds are currently on 56 points point to Arsenal's 47, with both teams having played 23 matches. Nottingham Forest is also on 47 points, but has played 24 matches.
