Chris Davies expects a “really tough game” as his Birmingham side head to the Toughsheet Community Stadium to take on Wanderers.

The Blues’ strong season continued with a narrow victory against promotion rivals Wycombe at St Andrew’s over the weekend.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman got the decisive goal against the Chairboys, who played the second half with 10 men after Xavier Simons was shown a straight red card.

Davies is prepared for another tough test against the Whites and admits it can be difficult to keep playing a “high energy game” as the fixtures come thick and fast.

“Play-off finalists last year, a good squad, the new manager gave them a little bit of a boost. A good team, a really tough game,” he " target="_blank" class="link"> told the club channels.

“The boys give everything. We are not a team who sits back and plays this kind of passive game,” the 39-year-old added.

“I want a high energy game and that every three or four days is not easy at any level. I am asking a lot of them and they couldn’t give anymore for the club, themselves and the team.

“They do look tired towards the end of games but the more you go on now, hopefully with the weather getting better and moving towards the end of the season, we can find the energy we need.”

Goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and defender Laird both came off with injuries at the weekend and could now miss the clash with Wanderers.

“I don’t think both are long-term serious ones but they are sore ones. Disappointed because we have picked up quite a few injuries recently. To lose a couple is hard but we will have to see how they are in the next couple of days,” Davies explained.

“I thought it was a really good win. One of the best teams in the league, definitely, and a clean sheet,” the former Tottenham coach added.

“I think we played really well when it was 11-v-11. We started the first half really well, a lot of the play was in there half trying to break down and create chances.

“We did that and scored a great goal. We could have had another. When they went down to 10 men, we came out for the second half and it kind of changed it a little bit.

“We were a little bit more cautious and couldn’t quite push on to get that second goal which you always need.”
