North Ribblesdale travelled to old foes Leodiensian on Saturday knowing a win might secure the Counties One Yorkshire title, depending on results elsewhere.

They managed that, claiming a comfortable 47-10 away victory, but their wait to be crowned champions goes on.

In front of a sparse home crowd, the early exchanges were even, until visiting winger Elliott Belt scorched in from 20 metres following good work from the midfield backs for a converted try.

Will Davidson then made a searing break from defence and then linked with Jim Mallilieu-Black.

He put flanker John Padley in under the posts for another try, converted by Tom Davidson.

Leos then replied with a try of their own, but their hopes of a comeback were short lived.

From a well worked lineout move, Padley got his second, and then Will Davidson went over after a pinpoint kick from his brother to give the visitors a 28-5 lead.

Young centre Callum Mathew was next on the scoresheet with his 10th try of the campaign, again converted to give North Ribb a 35-5 lead at the interval.

Ribb seemed to relax somewhat in the early stages of the second half and the home side scored another unconverted try soon after the restart.

Ribb then suffered two yellow cards for high tackles, Padley and veteran Adam Stubbs both sent to the sin-bin.

But their 13-men held firm and Padley celebrated his return to the playing arena with his hat-trick.

Young tyro Ben Coultherd rounded things off with his customary try, sealing a comfortable 35th consecutive league victory for this extraordinary side.

With second-placed Pocklington dropping a point in their win at Keighley it means that a five-point win at home this Saturday against Old Rishworthian will see North Ribb crowned as champions for the second successive season.

A bumper crowd is expected to cheer the side to the title in front of their own supporters.
