Former Carlisle United coach Ian Watson has returned to his previous club MK Dons.

It has been announced that Watson, who left his role as Blues first-team coach last month, has rejoined the MK club following the sacking of boss Scott Lindsey.

Watson has returned to Stadium MK as part of an interim coaching team under temporary boss Ben Gladwin.

It comes after Lindsey, who succeeded Mike Williamson at MK Dons, was sacked after a poor run of results.

The move sees Watson quickly back in the game after his Carlisle exit was confirmed on February 17.

He had joined Carlisle last September along with head coach Williamson and a number of other coaches.

Watson was effectively Williamson's No2 at Brunton Park but the latter's sacking in early September, and the subsequent appointment of Mark Hughes and assistant Glyn Hodges, saw changes to the backroom set-up at Carlisle.

Hughes went on to say that it had been his decision to make the change as Watson - who had helped in the initial period under Hughes - duly moved on. Sporting director Rob Clarkson also said he had been involved in the decision.

Watson, then, will be back at Brunton Park with MK Dons on Tuesday, March 25 for a rearranged League Two clash.

In the meantime, they face two of United's relegation rivals in quick succession, with a trip to fourth-placed Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night followed by Saturday's home clash with Morecambe.

Announcing the interim set-up, MK Dons said: "Milton Keynes Dons are pleased to announce a new interim management team who will oversee the side in the coming weeks.

"Current first team coach and former MK Dons midfielder Ben Gladwin will take charge as interim head coach, having rejoined the club in October.

"Ben will be joined by former Bournemouth midfielder and Welling United manager Jamie Day, who remains assistant head coach.

"Steve Hale will also continue as Goalkeeper Coach, with experience in the role at the likes of Exeter City and Walsall.

"MK Dons are also pleased to welcome back former coach Ian Watson, who will be returning to Stadium MK to assist Ben and his team as First Team coach."

Lindseys departure at the 17th-placed club has been followed by that of first-team coach Carl Laraman.

"MK Dons will now conduct an extensive and comprehensive interview process ahead of appointing a head coach to lead the team next season," the statement added.
