Manuel Ugarte felt it necessary to apologise for not picking Bruno Fernandes over Eric Cantona when choosing between Manchester United shirts past and present in a Sky Sports video.

Ugarte had to select between several of the club's classic kits while on camera with the Premier League broadcaster. The first saw the dark blue 2002/03 third shirt pitted against this season's white third shirt with the red and black chest bands.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's surname adorned the back of the former, which Ugarte explained was why he chose that. "This one, because it's a Ruud t-shirt," he said.

The next decision came between a 2006/07 home shirt with Rio Ferdinand on the back or the 2013/14 version that sported Nemanja Vidic's surname. After looking at both multiple times, Ugarte eventually went with the latter but did not explain further.

Then, the midfielder had to choose between a 2020/21 third shirt with Fernandes on it or the home shirt worn during the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons with Eric Cantona's surname on the back. Ugarte again deliberated before concluding, "I'm sorry, Bruno, but number seven, always!"

However, the player struggled even more when selecting between a 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 home shirt with Wayne Rooney's surname and a 2010/11 away kit - which became the 2011/12 third shirt - with Dimitar Berbatov on the back. "I don't know, both!" Ugarte said. "But maybe, yeah, Rooney."

Sky Sports posted a 24-second condensed clip of the video on their official Premier League X, formerly Twitter, account an hour before the FA Cup fifth round tie between United and Fulham began at Old Trafford. Ugarte started that match, but Alejandro Garnacho replaced the midfielder eight minutes into the second half. In contrast, Fernandes also started and scored an equaliser from the edge of the penalty area.
