Premier League fans were blown away by Cardiff City star Rubin Colwill after his performance against Aston Villa.

The two sides played in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday night, with a brace from former Real Madrid star Marcos Asensio securing a 2-0 win for The Villains.

Despite Cardiff crashing out before the quarter-finals, they produced an admirable display against Villa, with goalkeeper Ethan Horvath putting in an especially good performance between the sticks. However, it's rising star Colwill who has received the big plaudits online.

Our man Glen Williams rated Colwill 8/10 after his display against the Premier League opposition, taking to X, formerly Twitter, writing: "When you’re immersed in Cardiff 24/7 and watch Rubin Colwill all the time, it’s easy to forget what a talent he is

"Search his name on here and, after a top game against top opposition in front of millions watching, fans of so many PL clubs are blown away by him. Enjoy him!"

One Villa fan wrote on X: "Rubin Colwill will be a proper player. Bookmark this. Very impressed with him versus Villa. Unai’s (Emery) type of player."

Another said: "Rubin Colwill looked easy a mid table Prem player. Proper impressive."

In one of the most engaged posts, one Newcastle United supporter wrote: "Who is this Rubin Colwill, midfielder for Cardiff? I would genuinely take him at Newcastle, he has been IMMENSE this game. I can’t even believe how good he is."

There were further posts from various Villa fans suggesting their club should try and sign Colwill from Cardiff. The 22-year-old signed a new deal in September last year, which will run until the summer of 2027.

Colwill has been at the Bluebirds' academy since he was eight years old, before making his debut in the senior first team in February 2021. He scored his first goal for Wales against Czech Republic in Cardiff three years ago.
