FRANK Lampard was pleased his Coventry City side picked up three points despite not being at their best against Oxford United.
Jack Rudoni headed in from close range to give the Sky Blues an early lead, before the teams exchanged two goals apiece during a breathless 18-minute spell in the second half, which also saw Ellis Simms denied from the penalty spot.
It was a third defeat on the spin for United, but an eighth victory in nine Sky Bet Championship matches for the Sky Blues.
Coventry head coach Lampard told BBC CWR: “It was entertaining. It was a typical Championship game, they can go this way. It’s not an easy place to come.

“We weren’t at our best, but I think that can happen with these games. They can mess you up a little bit, and possibly the early goal gave us a sense that we had control of the game, and that went away.
“But at this stage, when we’re trying to churn out results and points, you’ve got to look at the team and when you’re not at your best, can you win games?
“With the three goals that we get, and we missed a penalty, we managed to do it.”
Lampard added: “We felt like we could play through them with ease for five or 10 minutes, and score our goal, that we’d continue in that vein, as in playing forward quickly and making it a bit transitional, which I think suits them if I’m honest.
“That made the rest of the first half feel like they’re not giving us too many problems. We always felt dangerous to them, but we lacked that element of control that I’d want.

“It’s not always a given, so you have to fight through that. I liked our reactions to the goals in the second half, and the bits of quality.
“We wanted to attack the sides of the pitch. We felt we could build well and get on the sides, and then get the full backs involved and make the box.
“We do that a lot. We work on it in training and thankfully we’ve got good quality with crosses and people that can head it.”
