A South Lanarkshire-based youth football team has received a £1,000 donation from a supermarket chain.

The money from Lidl will help Blantyre Victoria 2013 Whites Football Team buy essential all-weather training wear, fitness equipment, and footballs.

This will help the young players stay active and improve their skills.

The donation is part of Lidl's ongoing effort to support local communities and promote children's health and wellbeing across Scotland.

The donation came after the opening of Lidl's new Blantyre store on Whistleberry Road on February 13.

The new store, built on the same site as the original store, is a multi-million-pound investment that has created 10 new jobs.

The Blantyre Victoria 2013 Whites were invited as special guests to the store's opening, where they got a first look inside and sampled Lidl's in-store bakery.

Ross Jackson, regional head of property at Lidl GB, said: "At Lidl, we’re dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities we serve.

"Local youth sports teams play a vital role in bringing young people together, encouraging fitness, and building confidence.

"The dedication of Blantyre Victoria’s coaches and volunteers is truly inspiring, and we’re proud to support their work with this contribution."

Angela McMillan, chairperson of Blantyre Victoria Youth Football Team, said: "We’re incredibly thankful for Lidl’s support.

"This donation will make a real difference, providing our young players with the training wear and equipment they need to develop their skills and enjoy the game."
