Joel Glazer is still actively involved in Manchester United's transfer plans.

Sources have confirmed that Glazer retains the right to sign off and veto deals even though Sir Jim Ratcliffe assumed control of the club's football operations with his 27.7% minority stake last season.

Glazer is still the United co-chairman along with his brother, Avram, and has been described as "more hands-on" during the club's negotiations in the winter transfer window. A United source said Glazer hs always been involved and that nothing had changed.

The unpopular Glazer family took ownership of United in May 2005 and six siblings sit on the United board. In recent years, Joel and Avram have become the most involved in the day-to-day running of United.

Joel has not been seen at a United home game since the 2019 Champions League quarter-final first leg against Barcelona. The club claimed he was in attendance for the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City last year.

Avram has been more visible, having attended FA Cup final triumphs for both the men's and women's teams in the Wembley royal box last season. Avram also attended the 2023 FA Cup and League Cup finals and has been at Old Trafford a handful of times in recent years. Edward Glazer and Bryan Glazer were spotted at the 2023 FA Cup final.

Ratcliffe's approval ratings have plummeted among United matchgoers amid the team's dire Premier League form and the steep mid-season ticket price hike to £66. During the 1-0 win at Fulham last week, United fans chanted, "Just like the Glazers, Jim Ratcliffe's a c**t" with the Ineos chairman in attendance.

A handful of United supporters confronted Ratcliffe in his car outside Craven Cottage over the rise in ticket prices with the team still marooned in the bottom half of the league table.

Ratcliffe and the Ineos faction have endured a turbulent first year at United marred by striking mistakes. Five months after the club decided to retain Erik ten Hag as manager and extended his contract, the Dutchman was sacked and replaced by Ruben Amorim.

The inaugural sporting director Dan Ashworth was then dismissed after only five months, having been billed as "one of the top sporting directors in the world" by Ratcliffe before United invested £206million on five players in the summer transfer window.

Morale among staff has also still not recovered from the 250 job cuts last year.
