Manchester United legend Paul Scholes remains fearful that poor results throughout this transitional period under Ruben Amorim are only going to drive disconnect - even more so without proper support behind the scenes to help.

Drawing at Everton with the aid of a stoppage-time VAR penalty overturn last weekend leaves United 15th in the Premier League. There is no need to be fearful of a relegation battle though they are far behind the standards of the club, fighting for titles or at worst qualifying for Europe.

Now Scholes, speaking on the latest edition of The Overlap's Fan Debate, has highlighted further worries witnessing the current attempt of his former club at kickstarting a new rebuild under new part-ownership and management.

He began: "It worries me because when you lose every week, there is going to be that disconnect. I’m sure they must be growing further apart - players stepping back wondering ‘have I done the right thing here?’

"I feel a bit sorry for the manager because he came in when Dan Ashworth was there, he was going to be the one next to him, and I felt like it with [Erik] Ten Hag there was a big gap between his staff’s side and the football side to the ownership."

Scholes has often been vocal about the running of the football club, particularly around the time Amorim's predecessor was sacked. It was his feeling that there was a divide between Ten Hag and those in the boardroom.

"I don’t want that happening again," was the message the former midfielder reiterated from over one month ago.

However, considering Ashworth's departure as sporting director in December, Scholes ultimately conceded: "But I feel like it is happening without that man in the middle. We don’t know because we don’t see, but I hope he’s getting a bit of help every day - Jim Ratcliffe or Sir David Brailsford, whoever it is, is with him every day.

"It feels like it’s coming apart. Again, it’s early to say that and I don’t know the actual [facts]."
