Chesterfield have confirmed that Tyrone Williams has undergone surgery after he went off injured against Swindon Town on Saturday.

Williams went down after 14 minutes following a collision in the penalty area from a Swindon free kick and after a ten-minute delay to the match, during which he was being seen to by paramedics, was stretchered off the pitch.

After the match, Chesterfield manager Paul Cook opted not to do any interviews due to the situation with Williams.

On Sunday evening, Chesterfield provided an update on the 30-year-old’s status and thanked the Swindon fans for their support.

The statement said: “Tyrone Williams has today undergone surgery after suffering an injury in yesterday’s game at Swindon Town. Medics will assess the extent of the injury in due course.

“Tyrone’s family are comforted by the fact that he is receiving the best possible care. They would like to express their appreciation of the support received from Chesterfield and Swindon supporters. We send our very best wishes to Tyrone and his family.”

After the match, Swindon assistant manager Marcus Bignot told club media: “I hope that Tyrone is ok, I have watched his career closely.

“For myself and everybody at the football club, we hope he is ok.”
