Manchester United are reportedly set to close the staff canteen at Old Trafford, with changes also expected at the Carrington training ground.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has overseen significant cuts since he arrived at the club, including scrapping the staff Christmas party and reducing funding to the Manchester United Foundation.

According to The Guardian, United will this week shut the canteen at Old Trafford, which had provided free hot meals and tea and coffee at lunchtime.

Instead of that, fruit will be provided for employees, while only players will now receive lunch each day at the training ground. Staff will be offered soup and bread.

United cut around 250 staff last year, which was said to have saved between £40m-45m, and it is claimed that another round of up to 200 redundancies is expected.

United have lost more than £300m over the past three seasons and it is therefore felt that further cuts are required.

The club spent more than £20m earlier this season sacking Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff and then bringing in Ruben Amorim and his team.

There could be more pain to come, with the club’s disastrous season on the pitch providing costly.

United sit 15th in the table and revenue will be impacted should they fail to qualify for European football next season, which would impact the money received from sponsors.
