Hoops end losing run with draw against title hopefuls - chof 360 news

OXFORD City ended a four-game losing run with a goalless draw at home against Vanarama National League North title hopefuls Scunthorpe United.

Both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities, with Mark Beck firing over the crossbar when on the turn for the visitors in one of the earlier chances in the game.

The Hoops’ clearest sight of goal in the first half came when Aaron Drewe burst down the right-hand side and crossed for Alfie Potter, who tried to take control of the ball, but the Iron cleared the danger just as Potter was about to shoot.

The second period followed a similar pattern to the first half, but then opened up towards the closing stages.

Within 10 minutes of the restart though, Laurie Walker got down well to make a smart save from Alfie Beestin, and Beestin went through on goal soon after, only to be met by a fantastic challenge from Drewe.

City showed promise on the counter-attack, and Jayden Carbon was tracked well by Maxim Kouogun, who did enough to deny the Hoops youngster.

Another counter-attack saw Josh Ashby play a ball across goal, only for Andre Burley’s header to drift over the crossbar.

With five minutes to go, City needed Walker to keep it goalless, when he did well to push a Mo Fadera shot wide.

The Hoops, 19th in the National League North table, are three points above the relegation zone and welcome league leaders Chester on Tuesday night.
