Boxer Lauren Price returned to her hometown to meet supporters ahead of her world title unification bout against Natasha Jonas next month.

The event, organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, took place at the Centre of Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach on Saturday, February 15.

It provided an opportunity for local residents to meet the former Olympic gold medallist, collect tickets for the upcoming fight, take part in a Q&A session, and purchase official merchandise.

Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: "Lauren is a true role model and a fantastic ambassador for Ystrad Mynach and the wider Caerphilly County Borough.

Price, one of Ystrad Mynach's most successful sporting figures, will fight Jonas at London’s Royal Albert Hall on March 7.

In December, she made an emphatic first defence of her WBA welterweight title after stopping Colombian Bexcy Mateus at Exhibition Centre Liverpool.

The one-sided contest ended in round three as Price showcased her enviable punching power by flooring her opponent, and the referee called a halt to proceedings.

Mateus hit the canvas in all three rounds as Price proved on a different level to her opponent.

She told Sky Sports: "I enjoyed myself in there tonight. I knew she had a good record, but I’ve had a great camp and on we move.

“Fight by fight I keep learning, keep developing. I’ve still got so much more to come.

On the same night, Jonas became a two-weight unified champion to set up next month's British showdown.

The 40-year-old IBF champion added the WBC title by beating Ivana Habazin over 10 rounds.

The council said it "extends its best wishes to Lauren ahead of her world title fight and encourages residents to show their support as she competes on one of boxing’s biggest stages".

It added it is "proud of Lauren’s achievements and the inspiration she provides to the local community".
