The best food storage containers we've ever tested are a record-low $23 for 6 - chof 360 news

I can't be alone in thinking leftovers don't get enough credit, right? Not only do they cut down on food waste but also they spare us from having to prepare more meals than necessary during a busy week. They're true home cook MVPs and thus deserve a better home than a flimsy, stained container. To that end, chof360 home and garden writer Kristin Granero went in search of the best kitchen storage vessels. After testing many brands, she awarded Rubbermaid Brilliance the coveted title of "best food storage containers overall" — and a six-pack happens to be on sale for just $23 (down from $36) at Amazon.

When our tester tried these food savers out, something just "clicked" — likely those airtight, leakproof lids.

Why is it a good deal? ????

These food savers come in many sizes, and prices vary — that said, the six-pack of round and rectangular containers is currently down to a record low (over 35% off). In fact, this combo costs less than some sets with fewer containers, so if you're on the fence, consider this your sign to add it to your cart. It includes two 1.3-cup rectangular containers, two 3.2-cup rectangular containers, one 2.17-cup round container, one 3.5-cup round container and lids for each.

Why do I need this? ????

I know what you're thinking — how much better could Rubbermaid Brilliance containers be than your standard food canister? Here's what Granero has to say: "Durable yet lightweight, the flip-style lids were easy to clean and, when locked, the set proved to be airtight. Based on our experience, the containers are also odor- and stain-resistant, so they still smell fresh and look like new after being used to store colorfully sauced foods such as marinara sauce."

She adds, "Unlike some other plastic containers on the market, these containers have excellent clarity — especially helpful when you need to identify food quickly or navigate a fully stocked fridge. Another biggie: The bases and the lids in both the plastic and glass versions of this set are dishwasher-, freezer- and microwave-safe. A mix of small, medium and large containers stack together beautifully for orderly storing and transporting."

What more could you want from your food storage — built-in vents so you can microwave your leftovers without removing the lids? Yeah, they have those too.

What reviewers say ????

Nearly 90,000 Amazon shoppers give these containers their "seal" of approval.

Pros ????

"I really love these," raved one. "You can literally hear them seal when you close them. I use these to take to work with me, and the slim design also makes them fit easily into your work bag, which is another plus!"

"I started buying these about six or seven years ago," shared a Rubbermaid loyalist. "I now have my entire kitchen converted to these fabulous containers. [They] really seal great, [are] resistant to stains and odors ... I use [them] in my cabinets for dry storage, in the refrigerator and freezer. ... They have bounced off tile floors multiple times, and no cracks or breakage."

"To be able to microwave with vents and clean in the dishwasher makes these indispensable in our home," said another happy customer. "I like the clear plastic. ... I just can't find much to complain about."

Cons ????

"Leak proof, dishwasher safe, never stains," wrote a generally pleased buyer. "I’ve put spaghetti in these a million times and never had issues with stains. ... Only complaint is that the lids seal a little too tight sometimes, so you’ve got to pry them off — but honestly, a pretty good thing … no leaks!"

"They are so airtight that I have a hard time opening them," echoed another fan, adding, "but a good problem to have. I buy cheese in the very large family size and it lasts for ages! ... I literally have at least 20 of these in different sizes."

Prefer glass? This set's also on sale:

Glass is heavier than plastic, but the tradeoff is that you'll be able to put the bases in this set into the oven (up to 450°F). Like their plastic counterparts, they're also odor- and stain-resistant, dishwasher-, microwave- and freezer-safe, airtight and leakproof.

"I really love these glass containers," swooned a reviewer. "I am trying to get away from plastic and decided to try these. They only latch on the sides because there is an edge on each long side to grab onto. This is a game-changer for me. I hate trying to hold on to a hot glass dish on the sides."
