GREENOCK JUNIORS boss Gary Fleming is looking for more of the same as his side look to record back-to-back victories on Saturday.

The Ravenscraig boss is in good spirits before making the trip to North Ayrshire to face lowly Irvine Vics, but that didn't stop him firing a warning to his front line - who he hopes can begin to regain their clinical edge at the business end of the season.

He told the Tele: “Heading to Irvine we’re looking for more of the same to be honest.

"On another day we could have scored four or five last week and the game could have been well out of sight much sooner.

"Prior to last week’s match we had seen, in training, an increased level of performance, fitness and sharpness which the boys took into the game.

"It is important that we build on that momentum by continuing to transfer the methodology we’re working on through the week into Saturday’s games and continuing to play in a way which allows us to dominate games and create lots of goal scoring opportunities."

Having rediscovered their form last Saturday, Nock will look to maintain and improve on that performance to consolidate their place as the number two team in GreenVersity Division Three.

Vics have not earned a point since November 19, when they drew 1-1 with Girvan.

Since then they have lost six on the bounce, conceding 27 goals in the process - though they have scored 11 goals in that run, so they are not without an attacking threat.

The fixture list on Saturday will inevitably mean that some of Greenock’s promotion rivals will drop points.

Third-placed Kilsyth Athletic go up against Threave, whilst leaders Thorn Atheltic play fourth-top Ardeer in another game of particular interest.

A win would therefore ensure a further valuable cushion against some rivals.

Their opponents are on a very poor run of form and Greenock will be strong favourites to take all three points.

But Fleming insists that none of that matters on the day as he warned of the threat that Irvine will pose.

He added: "Victoria Park is always a tough place to go.

"Despite Vics lower league status they have a dangerous front two in Adams and Savarese. The pitch can on occasion be a leveller.

"We need to be on our game from the very first whistle if we want to come away with three points.”

Thankfully, there are no fresh concerns for the Ravenscraig supremo heading into the tie.

Ryan Corr remains out, most likely, until the final quarter of the season, while Cammy McPhee is training well and in contention for the match day squad.

Jamie Black having served his one match suspension will be available. A highlight of last week’s result was the performances of Jack Graham and Ryan Docherty, which evidenced the depth of the squad and the level of competition for places.

Greenock are sponsored by Saveheat, Keystore Cowal View, Safer Group, The Lighthouse Bar, McGills, ARC and Blairs.
