A member’s bill to ban greyhound racing in Scotland is to be brought before Scottish Parliament in April.

Scottish Green MSP Mark Ruskell is behind it and he wants to see Scotland follow the example set by Wales earlier this week.

The Welsh parliament voted to ban the sport and it is a subject that has been getting a lot of attention in Scotland too.

The bill has cross party support but hasn’t yet received it from the Scottish Government.

There’s only one greyhound track in Scotland still going, with famous ones such as Shawfield shutting down in recent years.

Thornton Stadium in Fife is also the only independent track in the UK and is not regulated by the Greyhound Racing Board of Britain.

The Scottish Greens want to see the ban put in place as soon as possible and are encouraging everyone to vote it through in April.
