Young woman seriously injured in fall from Spider Island bridge

A woman in her twenties is being treated in hospital after she was found with serious injuries. Bystanders reported that she fell from a bridge across a busy Derby intersection last night, Thursday, November 24th.

Shortly before 12:30am, Derbyshire Police urged people to avoid the area around Spider Island, in Allenton, and to find alternate routes while officers dealt with the incident.

A force spokesperson said: “Roads around Spider Island in Allenton are closed due to an ongoing incident. Osmaston Park Road, Harvey Road, Osmaston Road and Chellaston Road were closed just before midnight.”

Roads reopened at 2.23am this morning, Friday, 25 November. And now the police is issuing an update. A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports that a woman had fallen from a bridge across Spider Island in Derby at 11.50pm yesterday (24 November).

“At the scene, a woman in her 20s was found seriously injured and still in hospital and receiving treatment with her family by her side. Investigations are still ongoing into the incident, however, there is currently no indication that any third party is involved.

“Anyone with information about the incident, who has not already spoken to officers, is asked to contact Derbyshire Police on 22000689628.”
