Federal judge temporarily blocks President Trump's birthright citizenship order - chof 360 news

A federal judge in Seattle issued a temporary restraining order blocking Trump’s executive order that seeks to limit birthright citizenship from taking effect.

U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour in Seattle on Thursday put Trump's order on hold for the duration of a lawsuit brought by four states and an immigrant rights group challenging it.

Coughenour decried what he described as the administration’s treatment of the Constitution and said Trump was trying to change it with an executive order. He had previously called the order “blatantly unconstitutional” and two weeks ago issued a 14-day temporary restraining order blocking its implementation.

On Wednesday, a federal judge in Maryland similarly issued a nationwide hold on the same executive order from Trump regarding birthright citizenship. The separate but similar case involves immigrants' rights groups and pregnant women whose soon-to-be-born children could be affected.
