When is England vs Wales? Date, kick-off time, TV channel and how to watch live stream of World Cup 2022 clash to day

Kieffer Moore said before the World Cup started how “great” it would be to kick England out, but Wales’ chances of reaching the last 16 are now hanging by a thread after a damaging defeat to Iran.

It was a frustrating tournament for Wales, who, after drawing 1-1 with an enthusiastic American team in their opening game, suffered a humiliating 2-0 loss to Iran in the second.

A disappointing performance was compounded when Wayne Hennessey was sent off for a terrible challenge outside his box and Gareth Bale went missing. That stabbed.

The look on the faces of the Welsh players as they sat on the turf of the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, exhausted after conceding two goals in stoppage time, said it all. They had lost their chance to get through the group stage and recreate that glorious French summer of 2016 in the desert of Qatar.

More of american football

Or maybe they aren’t quite there yet. Wales have one last chance of salvation at this World Cup as they face an England side who appear to be well established in the tournament. The deserved run against America could still save them, especially if Gareth Southgate’s side secure a second straight win.

The Three Lions scored the goals against Iran and take on the USA in their second group game, knowing a win is all they need to go through as Wales maintain their meager hopes of progress.

And right now that’s all the Welsh can cling to. They will hope that the aftershock of two rather passive performances manifests itself in a rousing bravery capable of taking down their local rivals.

TV details England vs Wales

  • Date: Tuesday, November 29, 2022
  • Kick-off: 19:00 GMT
  • Location: Al-Rayyan Stadium
  • TV channel: England vs Wales airs on Tuesday on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The game will also be available in Wales on S4C and S4C Online.

“We are gutted, we can’t say it any other way,” Bale said after the defeat against Iran.

“We fought to the last second and we have to go again. We’re all gutted, but we need to pick ourselves up right away. It will certainly be difficult for us. We’ll have to see. What can I say? We recover and we have to go again.”

Indeed go again. Boss Rob Page has only four days to get this sorted out. Its star men Bale, Moore and Aaron Ramsey worked hard last time but will surely be trusted again. Page has been loyal to the team that has taken this country through qualifying, and it is that unit that has worked so well so far.

Tactically, his system, which relies on taking advantage of the game disruption, took another blow on Friday – Iran did with Wales what the US did, but was even more clinical.

In fact, both games have been messy affairs so far. At one point in the second half on Friday, the ball just didn’t stick to either Wales or Iran’s boots. Wales knew they had to shake things up in the 2022 World Cup, but apart from a strong spell against America, they’ve finished second overall in pinball.

It is unlikely that England will get carried away in an end-to-end game without such control. Can Page offer something else?

After Friday’s defeat, the dejected Wales boss said: “I’m not going to sit here with sour grapes and say we deserved something from that game.

“We weren’t in the game at all. You can bring one or two players with you if they have a day off, but if the majority of the team isn’t fully into it then unfortunately there’s only one outcome.

Wales World Cup Permutations

Wales are at the bottom of Group B by one point. Should England beat the USA on Friday evening, Wales will have to beat England for a chance to qualify for the knockout phase.

In fact, Wales need to win on Tuesday regardless of what happens elsewhere or they will go home.

But even a victory over England would mean nothing if Iran beat the US in their final group game on Tuesday. And the US could still qualify if they beat Iran.

Unlike the Champions League, where head-to-head records are used to split teams with a tie, the World Cup is all about goal difference. And this is not good news for Wales, who are now at -2 goals.

Meanwhile, it would make little mathematical difference for the US to beat England on Friday, as Wales need a win in their final game anyway. But a tough American win could give this confident English camp some nerves and set off a banger of a final match.

“I am disappointed, especially as we fell well below the standards we have set over the past few months that have brought us success in qualifying for the World Cup. If we had met those standards it would have been good, but today we were way below that and if you do that in top leagues you get punished.

“This is hard to accept because of the stage we are on. I told them before every game, ‘go out and show the world what you show us every day’. That’s not a true reflection of that team. They got their reward today, they deserved that defeat. That’s not like her, and that’s what disappoints me the most.”
