What Matt Turner and Takehiro Tomiyasu did after Japan vs USA as Arsenal stars shine in friendly match

Arsenal stars Matt Turner and Takehiro Tomiyasu faced each other on the international stage on Friday when Japan played the United States in a friendly match. It was the former who took the lead in a game they dominated, but only came away with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Daichi Kamada and Kaoru Mituma.

It would have been much worse for the USMNT had it not been for Gunners goalkeeper Turner, who made six saves to stop an even bigger deficit. The official USMNT website noted that the 28-year-old was his team’s “only positive” in the match, giving him a rating of 6.5 out of ten.

In a difficult match, the American faced 16 shots from the opponent, eight of which were on target. One of those was a low save to deny Kamada at the hour mark to keep the match with only one goal margin at the time.

At the other end, the Japanese defense stood strong, not allowing a single shot on target in the 90 minutes. With Tomiyasu playing as a central defender, he will be looking to take that form in the club’s next set of matches, having struggled to make it into the squad so far this season.

After the match, both Arsenal stars were seen meeting up for a chat before exchanging shirts with each other. The great atmosphere surrounding the club and squad continues, even if the two players have yet to capture significant minutes at this point.

Even before the match, Turner was full of praise for his teammate, saying, “I’m really looking forward to playing against Super Tomiyasu! We eat meals together from time to time. He’s 8 out of 10, and you know what you’re going to get from him every day.”
