A memorial service and a Candy Light Vigil were held in the Chesapeake region on Thursday to honor the victims.

President Biden said Thursday that the shootings, as well as the massacre at the LGTBQ+ club in Colorado Springs over the weekend, underscored the need to outlaw “sick” assault weapons that have no social value.

Witnesses described how horrific events unfolded late Tuesday when Peng opened fire in an employee break room, while investigators try to piece together a motive.

A law enforcement source told local media that Peng was “disturbed” by the recent change in employment status and complained of being “harassed” by fellow employees. A former co-worker also said he was paranoid about being watched by the government and didn’t like being recorded. One of the witnesses claims to have seen him target certain people during the attack.

An in-depth look at why Chesapeake and Walmart were shot

Police said they discovered on Andre Bing’s phone a “statement” of sorts, in which he complained about unspecified changes in his employment status, and what he described as harassment by other employees about it. One report said that near his body, police found a list of the employees he planned to attack.

As America celebrates Thanksgiving, police in Chesapeake, Virginia, have been searching for evidence of both the Wal-Mart mass shooting, an incident whose horror reverberated across the country, and another massive mass shooting that takes place in the most mundane of places.

In Nantucket, Massachusetts, vacationing Joe Biden was asked about the incident and vowed he would take action to control the sale of semi-automatic weapons.

“The idea that we don’t enforce red flag laws… is absurd,” he said. “The idea that we still allow the purchase of semi-automatic weapons is satisfactory. Only sick. It has no social compensation value. Zero. Nobody. There is no single reason for that except profit for the gun manufacturers.”
