St Leonards incident: Large police presence called to ‘armed incident’

A large police presence has responded to an armed incident, with people told to avoid the crime scene.

Several police vehicles and firearms officers were seen near the crime scene on Theaklen Drive in St. Leonards, along with an ambulance crew.

A police helicopter was also seen hovering over the area.

Witness Daniel Burton said the helicopter was flying “very low” around the scene of the incident.

He said: “I saw the police helicopter flying around Hollington and Silverhill in St Leonards and it was flying very low so I thought they were looking for someone.”

Police were also called to respond to a related incident at Churchill Court, near Stonehouse Drive – less than half a mile from the armed incident.

Sussex Police have urged the public to avoid both areas with an increased police presence.

A police spokesman said: “At 7.10pm police responded to an armed incident at Theaklen Drive, St Leonards and a related incident at Churchill Court off Stonehouse Drive.

“No injuries have been reported.

“Please avoid both areas. More police will be on hand as we respond to this incident.”
