‘Some lip on him’ – Trent Alexander-Arnold sends blunt message to Conor Coady after England challenge

There was no love lost between Merseyside rivals Connor Cody and Trent Alexander-Arnold in England training earlier today after the Everton man beat his defensive teammate in a jump drill.

Domestic competitions have been suspended for the time being as the 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign gets underway in Qatar. Gareth Southgate’s side got off to a strong start with a 6-2 win over Iran on Monday, and morale is high within the camp in Al Wakrah.

Evidence of the good mood was evident when England’s YouTube channel shared an Inside Training video today, in which Coady and Alexander-Arnold battled out the likes of Marcus Rashford, Phil Foden and Calvin Phillips on the vault. Players fall a short distance before bouncing back into the box as quickly as possible.

As Kwade advanced on his way to the final round, his club rivals finally seemed to snatch it up with a new best score and celebrated early with Cristiano Ronaldo’s “Sewu!”. But the Everton man came back to win the last jump of them all – much to Alexander-Arnold’s disbelief.

Cody mocked his compatriot’s early celebrations before shaking his hand and joking, “Thanks for coming.”

Alexander Arnold replied, “I got some lips down for him, you know.”

Neither Cody nor Alexander-Arnold took to the field at Khalifa International Stadium on Monday, but with the packed tournament taking three group games in eight days, it’s likely both will play some role.

Fellow Red Jordan Henderson also watched 90 minutes from the sidelines, and Jordan Pickford was the only Merseyside representative to feature in the big win.

England will face the United States on Friday evening before ending the group stage against Wales on Tuesday.
