Plymouth care home manager is one of the best in the South West

A woman from Plymouth could be crowned Best Home Care Manager in the Southwest this weekend — but she’s already been named one of the best in town.

Lorna Smith, principal of Parkwood House on Exmouth Road in Stoke, is a finalist for the Care Home Manager award, but that’s not all. Every care home employee is a finalist in the ‘Home Care Team’ award category.

Lorna says she’s “very excited” to have come this far with her team and that the nominations have been “a real morale booster” after the stressful situations they’ve been through throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in Bristol this weekend, on Saturday 26th November.

Lorna said: “Everyone at Parkwood is so excited to have come this far in such a highly respected and heated competition. It is a real booster for the whole team after the stress of the pandemic.

“I personally look forward to celebrating the achievements of all the candidates and sharing stories and best practices with other caregivers across the region.”

Joining Lorna and the Parkwood House staff at the award ceremony will be Southern Healthcare General Manager Jeffrey Cox, also a nominee.

Mr Cox will also be representing a Southern Healthcare colleague from Sefton Hall in Dawlish, who cannot be there as she is attending another award ceremony.
