Before the game, Jesse Marsch put together a starting line-up with nine substitutions as he wanted to give some of his fringe options vital minutes. Illan Meslier and Diego Llorente kept their starting spots, but Liam Cooper made his first appearance since early June with Scotland.

The first half saw the hosts get off to a fairly slow start, but after finally making their mark, they struck first via full-fledged debutant Luis Sinisterra. The Colombian then showed a turnaround to win a penalty, which pushed Mateusz Klich away.
