Dara O’Shea found the breakthrough for the Baggies in just nine minutes, taking advantage of some lax defense to ghost behind the post and lead John Swift’s free kick home.

Full league debutant Gabriel Sara came closest to the hosts in the first half, grazing the crossbar with a half volley from a tight corner.

Dean Smith’s side came out of the break as lackluster as before, but found their way back into the game through accidental means.

Teemu Pukki’s attempt was bounced off Byram and inside, with the goal passing a linesman’s check to face Norwich.

65 – Thomas-Asante cuts in and tries to bend one into the far corner, but he puts it out too wide and it doesn’t curl back into the post.

68 – Pukki cleverly goes out for Sargent and he fills in before firing his left. It is deflected back for a corner.

68 – GOAL NORWICH (Byram): Pukki shoots with his left from the edge of the area and his effort is deflected from Byram and into West Brom’s net.

74 – West Brom counters and Thomas-Asante finds space to shoot, but he is unbalanced when he hits it and can only find Omobamidele’s legs.
