Neymar to miss rest of Brazil’s World Cup group games with ankle injury | Brazil

On Friday, the team doctor said that Neymar and Danilo will miss Brazil’s remaining group stage matches against Switzerland and Cameroon after suffering injuries in the opening match of a 2-0 victory over Serbia on Thursday.

“Neymar and Danilo had an MRI scan on Friday afternoon and we found damage to the ligaments in their ankles,” he told reporters.

“They will miss the next game for sure and we will be careful because they will undergo treatment in order to try to get them in shape so that they can play again in the World Cup.”

Neymar was forced off the match against Serbia with 10 minutes left to play, after receiving several heavy tackles over the course of the match. A challenge from Nikola Milinkovic eventually cut short his stay on the court, leaving him with his head in his hands on the sidelines.

He was fouled nine times during the competition, more than any other player in the World Cup so far. Brazil will meet Switzerland on Monday, and then conclude the group matches against Cameroon next Friday.
