A woman is pregnant with the baby of her 56-year-old son after her daughter-in-law was left unable to carry a child — and says she can’t wait to give birth to her granddaughter. Nancy Hawke, 56, has offered to be a surrogate for her son, Jeff Hawke, 32, and wife Cambria, 30, after her daughter-in-law had a hysterectomy after the traumatic birth of their twins.
The couple had already struggled to conceive for six years before having twins, Vera and Eva, now three, and another group, Dessel and Luca, 11 months, via IVF. But after Nancy still wanted to expand her family, she had a “feeling” that she should be carrying her child and told Jeff, the computer scientist, that she would be willing to do it for them.Read:Iraqi TV actress Enas Taleb attacks The Economist’s ‘fat shaming’ | World
Nancy was surprised when doctors told her she was healthy enough to be pregnant – because she wasn’t expecting that to be possible at her age. The family began hormone therapy in January 2022 and the fertilized fetus was transferred in a clinic in February and was over the moon when he was working.
Now Nancy is waiting for her biological granddaughter and is not waiting for birth. Nancy, the manager, said: “I never imagined I’d be pregnant at 56 or that this would be possible, but it’s the most beautiful thing.
“I never planned on it, but I had this feeling shortly after the agonizing birth of Cambria that I had to carry their baby.” I told them I was ready but I thought I would be much older.
“But to my surprise the paramedics said I was fine and could do it while I was here. The pregnancy was very similar to my son’s, but I was feeling a bit more nauseous.Read:Russia to annex four Ukrainian regions
“My husband, Jeff and Cambria have been amazing throughout my pregnancy. I feel so strong carrying my son’s daughter.”
“It is humbling that Nancy would do this for us,” said Cambria, owner of a dance studio. She sacrifices so much for us, and for our family, and we are so grateful.
“It was so miraculous and so beautiful watching Nancy hold our sweet baby girl. She was nothing short of amazing and filled with so much light and grace.
“They say pregnancy comes with a glow, but Nancy is a total beacon.”
Jeff said: “I was so grateful to have a selfless and loving mother who was willing to make this kind of sacrifice for my family. After going through more than four years of infertility treatments, I realize the complexity of the process and I doubt it is possible for her to bear a child for us. – But I was so touched that she would show it.
“The whole trip has left me in awe. I am in awe of my mother – her kindness, love, strength, attitude, wisdom and dedication through this experience have been fun and beautiful to witness.”Read:Iranian satellite launched by Russia could be used for Ukraine surveillance | Russia
Nancy decided she wanted to be a surrogate for her son and daughter-in-law after her daughter-in-law was left unable to bear any more children when she underwent a life-saving hysterectomy in September 2021. “They went through a lot of suffering with infertility and she has seven fetuses to try IVF and they decided to use them all. ‘ said Nancy.
“Cambria had a lot of complications with the birth of her twin sons, so she had to have a hysterectomy so she couldn’t carry her children anymore. Suddenly I had a feeling a few months later, I should offer to do it.
“I told my son, he was tearful and shocked – I didn’t even tell my husband at the time. But he was really supportive. Neither of us thought that would be possible because of my age.”
Cambria and Jeff brought up Nancy’s presentation to the doctor and stated that she had previously given birth to five healthy children without any complications. “The doctor turned around and said I might be able to be a carrier and asked if I wanted to get tested to see if I was able to survive,” Nancy said.
“I was shocked that it might actually be an option but I would still be willing to do it for my son. The test showed that Nancy was a viable carrier, but it’s possible that they need to act fast before she enters menopause.
“I left the choice to Jeff and Cambria,” Nancy said. “They had just had twins, so it was really fast after having another baby.
“But they decided to go with it.”
Nancy began her hormone therapy in January 2022 and injected herself every day for 12 weeks with the help of her husband and Jeff’s father, Jason, 59, an ophthalmologist. Jeff and Cambria had already collected fertilized embryos from their other rounds of IVF, and Nancy was transferred to models in February 2022.
“It was a little scary as it’s been 26 years since I had a baby,” Nancy said. “I had a feeling before the blood test that it worked, I did a test and it was positive.
“I called Jeff and Cambria first thing in the morning to tell them. They were over the moon when we found out for sure a few days later that I was pregnant.”
Cambria was able to go to every date with Nancy, and the family was ecstatic to know they were expecting a girl in May 2022. “The pregnancy was similar to my other pregnancies, but I was a bit more sick,” Nancy said.
“Jason took care of me and cooked and Cambria and Jeff made dinner once a week. My other kids were a bit worried about my health when I first told them.
“But they’re ready for it all now.”
Granddaughter Nancy is due on November 5th and will be born with Jason, Jeff and Cambria in the room. “This was all a huge leap of faith,” Nancy said.
“It is such a wonderful and beautiful thing to do. I think this is such a rare occurrence. I never planned on it, but I am so glad I chose to carry my son’s baby.”
Cambria added: “We have text threads where we are constantly communicating and sharing funny moments, sacred moments and moments of encouragement.
“It was so special to be able to support her in so unique ways that we wouldn’t have been able to if we hadn’t chosen to do so.
“I love to give gifts and Nancy is always in my thoughts, so when I see something that makes me think of her, I get it.
“I try to make her favorite meals, we beg to give her a foot rub, and we take any opportunity to show our love and gratitude for this miracle she gives us.
“We can’t wait to meet our daughter.”
Jason said, “Nancy is by nature a selfless person, so I wasn’t too surprised by her presentation. However, I was moved and amazed at her willingness.”
“I was humbled and amazed when I found out she was pregnant.
“It felt like a miracle even though I administered dozens of potions that prepared her body for pregnancy.
“I couldn’t be happier and I’m excited to meet my new granddaughter.”
Jeff added: “We are grateful and excited for the beautiful new life coming up for our family.
“It has always been my dream to be a father, I adore each of my children and take my role and responsibility as their parent very seriously. And the opportunity to be the father to another beautiful baby girl is the greatest gift and blessing I can have.
“There is no repayment for something like this – all I can do is follow the example set by my parents and try to give the same level of love and devotion to my family and others.”
