What to know

A Big Ten bout between the Rutgers Scarlet Knights and the Maryland Terrapins is Saturday at noon ET at SECU Stadium. Last year, RU and Maryland were perfect matches, playing nothing against nothing and nothing against nothing.

The Scarlet Knights took a serious blow against the Penn State Nittany Lions last week, falling 55-10. RU trailed 48-10 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from. QB Gavin Wimsatt had a memorable game, but not in the way you want to be remembered: Despite one touchdown, he threw one interception and fumbled the ball once with only 122 yards passing.

Meanwhile, Maryland fell short to the Ohio State Buckeyes last week, falling 43-30. The losing side got a boost from QB Taulia Tagovailoa, who passed for two TDs and 293 yards on 36 attempts in addition to hitting in one rushing touchdown. Tagovailoa hadn’t helped his team much against Penn State two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

The Scarlet Knights should know that they’re going to be fighting an uphill battle given the 14 point spread they’re up against. Those betting on it against the spread should not have high expectations for them as the team is 2-4-1 ATS when expected to lose.

Both teams will surely fight tooth and nail to get back into the win column after last week’s losses. Check back later to see which team can work their way up the win column.
