Premier League giants Manchester City are among the clubs following developments with Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney.

City expressed interest in signing the 25-year-old after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Gunners earlier in the transfer window.

Pep Guardiola’s side have not yet made a formal offer for Tierney, who was unable to play a part in Arsenal’s pre-season tour of the United States due to an injury.

Tierney could start for Arsenal on Saturday afternoon when they face Leicester City, as Mikel Arteta confirmed the 25-year-old was fit enough to play.

Tierney came on as a substitute in Arsenal’s opening game of the season against Crystal Palace, but missed Arsenal’s pre-season tour due to injury.

The 25-year-old left-back suffered an injury during a friendly against Nürnberg, leaving Arteta sweating over his fitness.

The Arsenal star was frustrated to be back on the sidelines after missing the run-up at the end of the 2021-2022 season due to a knee problem.

However, he returned to action on August 5 and is expected to face Leicester on Saturday.

Mikel Arteta remained coy about Tierney’s situation when asked at the press conference ahead of Arsenal’s game against Leicester.

When asked about the rumours, the Arsenal manager said: “No and you know I’m not going to comment on individual cases.”

City are also nearing the signing of a new left-back in Sergio Gomez after agreeing an initial £11million fee with Anderlecht.

The Spain Under-21 international was initially earmarked as a development player but will now join the first team due to a lack of senior options at his position.

Guardiola turned his attention to signing Gomez after losing Brighton’s Marc Cucurella to Chelsea.

Guardiola said: “The moment we decide that Sergio Gomez will join the first team, the debate about a new left-back was over.”

The Spanish manager added: “The club is always working in many opportunities and positions. This one target is a young player.

‘In the [Under-19] World Cup, years ago, Phil Foden was the best player and he [Gomez] was the second best player.

“He played in Spain Under-21 and was a young talent for the Barcelona academy.

“He went to Dortmund and didn’t have many minutes and played under the good hands of Vincent Kompany and Anderlecht in recent years and he played really well. We focused on him and we could bring him here.’
