Man Utd want €125m duo in January transfer window as they ‘go on the offensive’

Manchester United are set to increase their interest in PSV striker Kodi Gakpo and another target as the January transfer window approaches, according to reports.

The Red Devils recently agreed to mutually terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract after a controversial interview with Piers Morgan brought bad publicity.

This means that Manchester United will now be looking for a new striker in the winter market as well as other possible additions with previous reports suggesting that Erik ten Hag had already been promised before Ronaldo’s departure.

Teddy Sheringham thought they needed a suitable centre-forward Instead of another “cocky player” like Gakpo But it appears that the Netherlands international was his first target in January.

and French publication Mercato foot He insists the Red Devils will “go on the offensive very soon” in the transfer market with Gakpo emerging as Ten Hag’s “winter priority”.

They see him as the “perfect replacement” for Ronaldo while also being able to play anywhere across the front line and Manchester United “have the means to provide money for the talented Dutch player and will likely take action”.

PSV will demand €60m to allow Gakpo to leave in January, up from €45m in the summer, with his value increased after an excellent start to the new campaign that saw him contribute nine goals and 12 assists in 14 Eredivisie matches.

The report warns that the Dutch club could increase their asking price “more” depending on their World Cup performance as Gakpo scored in the Netherlands’ opener.

Another player Ten Hag is keen on is Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubemendi with the La Liga giants also understanding Barcelona’s interest in his signature.

Zubimendi came through the youth ranks at Sociedad and has become a regular in San Sebastian’s side over the past two seasons.

The defensive midfielder has a goal and two assists in 14 La Liga appearances this season and has now made 114 appearances in all competitions since making his first-team debut in 2018.

and a Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo Man United are allegedly ‘following’ the midfielder, who has one cap with Spain, as Sociedad inserted a €60m release clause into his contract.

The La Liga team is “interested in the threats” of the Red Devils and other Premier League teams, but the “uncertain future” at Manchester United makes the move more difficult.

If Man Utd can get deals for Gakpo and Zubimendi over the line in the winter window, they will have spent no less than €125m.
