The new Medical Research Council home for the London Institute of Medical Sciences has been completed with an official opening scheduled for early 2023.
The 12,500 meters2 building will house more than 40 research groups in one space to enhance collaboration and research.
The project was a collaboration with Imperial College and took place on the campus of Hammersmith Hospital in White City. The project involved involving multiple stakeholders with complex technical requirements on a busy hospital site.
Key laboratory design and engineering expertise was provided by consultant Buro Happold, whose spokesman Richard Walder predicted that the new LMS would benefit the UK research community for many years to come.
Architects Hawkins\Brown collaborated with Buro Happold’s Chris Abell and Bruce Nepp to provide laboratory briefing and design services to meet scientists’ requirements in technical facilities and workspace. These include super-resolution imaging and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM) suites, data center and specialized support facilities.
