Kite said, “I’m humming! Like I said at the time, I knew it was a great hit once I hit it and being able to hit the goal of the month in my first month in League One is a real privilege.

“There was something a bit similar in training a couple of days before that and I put a lot on it and cut it so I thought there was a lot of power on the ball so just try to get it into the corner as much as I can and luckily I got really good communication about it.

“There have been some great goals I’ve been up against, so it just makes it even sweeter.”

Sky Bet EFL Goal of the month captain Don Goodman and Sky Sports Pundit world said: “In a repeat of today’s last league game, the outcome was not all that different as Exeter and Port Vale met at St James’ Park. Freed from title restrictions and rebounding from holiday summer.

“Harry Kate’s superb touches and volley really set the tone for the afternoon, with Exeter taking their first three first-league points and now adding the Goal of the Month award to the afternoon’s achievement.”

In addition to John Jules’ effort, Kate’s goal was also judged to be superior to Charlton Athletic’s hits Sean Claire and Wycombe Wanderers Dominic Gap.
