England’s ‘leaked’ starting line-up for United States World Cup clash revealed as decisions made on ex-Sheffield United, Leeds United and Barnsley men – gallery

England captain Harry Kane trained before facing the United States in the World Cup finals on Friday after Gareth Southgate allayed concerns about a foot injury to the striker.

Kane was battered after a clumsy challenge by Morteza Bouraliganji in England’s 6-2 win over Iran on Monday – the national team’s biggest-ever win at the start of a major tournament. The Tottenham striker, who has ankle problems, played for 25 minutes but was seen limping after the game and underwent a precautionary check.

And Southgate revealed that Kane trained with the rest of the squad behind closed doors on Wednesday and also joined his teammates on the field at Al Wakrah camp in England when the cameras were present on Thursday.

“He’s good, he worked a little bit more individually on Wednesday but he’s back with the team on Thursday and he’s good for the game,” Southgate told ITV.

“We just checked it out, just to see. I think sometimes when you’re dealing with things it’s important to know exactly what’s there and it was all good. It’s not the ankle. It’s more the foot. It was a really nasty challenge but I think it’s fortunate.” We got away with it reasonably lightly.”

Harry Maguire came off against Iran feeling unwell but took part in England training on Wednesday.

Callum Wilson did not train but is not believed to be in doubt about his fitness, while James Maddison was absent again after recovering from a knee complaint that ruled him out against Iran. Kyle Walker has also been training, and is hoping to get his first few minutes since he underwent hip surgery in October.
