Driver smashed into row of parked cars while being chased by police

Two men have been arrested after a police chase ended in an accident.

Merseyside Police confirmed they were involved in a chase, in Moreton, around 9.30pm on Thursday, 24 November. Officers began pursuit, after the white Vauxhall Astra failed to stop for patrols.

The chase continued onto Firmeed Road and the car then crashed into two parked cars on the street. Police say the driver and another man inside the car tried to escape but were later arrested.

Two men, aged 32 and 34, from Tranmere and Liscard were arrested at the scene on suspicion of vehicle offences, and other unrelated offences. They were taken to a police station in Merseyside, where they remained in custody.

Eyewitnesses in the area told the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) that they saw a car swerve towards a number of parked cars, and that a lamppost caused the damage. They also reported hearing a police helicopter flying overhead just minutes after it crashed and seeing the road “filled with smoke”.

One man said, “They just got off the road, hit a car parked here, completely destroyed another car there, and then crashed into a lamppost. One of the cars is about three feet shorter than it should be.”
