Cleethorpes sex shop up for licence renewal

A decision has been reached regarding the licensing of the Cleethorpes sex shop.

OMG Adult World in Grimsby Road, Cleethorpes, has applied to renew its license as a sex shop. North East Lincolnshire Council’s Licensing and Community Protection Committee was due to make a decision on the license application in September.

But Queen Elizabeth II died and council meetings were canceled during a period of national mourning. At its last meeting on Wednesday, November 23, the committee followed the recommendation of the council officer and approved the license renewal.

“The building was not visited after the application was submitted due to Covid restrictions but the licensing department has not received any complaints or other information indicating that the building is not operating in accordance with the terms of the licence,” the council’s report on license renewal by councilors said.

OMG Adult World, formerly the Private Shop, was required to pay a standard £1,230 council fee to apply for a renewal of a sex shop license. On renewal in 2021 I paid £1164.

No objections were raised to the application and there were also no mandatory reasons for refusal to apply. The Council’s report warned that if it objected, the local authority might be subject to legal action due to the lack of reasons for mandatory refusal or the objections raised.

Sex shop licenses are only granted for up to 12 months and transfer or renewal requests may be submitted at any time prior to the expiration of the current license. The sex shop isn’t allowed to operate on Sundays, Good Friday, or Christmas Day, though the app only sought a license for Monday-Saturday business hours anyway.
